General Information
Astor House Hotel, known as Richard's Hotel was established in 1846. It
is the first luxury hotel built by foreigners in China and boasts the
reputation of the famous milestone building in Shanghai.
With the first electric light in China lit up here and the first
telephone in China put through here, the hotel featured a matchless fame
and reputation at that time. Many celebrities have stayed in the hotel,
including American former president, British poilosopher Russell, famous
scientist Einstein and the master of comedy Chaplin.
Now, Astor House Hotel has accomplished the first phase of its renovation
and reappeared its thriving in the past.
