Poverty alleviation banquet to be held again
www.chinanews.cn 2005-04-06 14:00:07
Chinanews, Apr. 6 - The "Poverty Alleviation Banquet," which was halted
at the end of last year, is expected to be held again. He Daofeng,
vice-chairman of the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA),
said that the activity was not cancelled last year. It was postponed
because it is a new form and some aspects had not been prepared
sufficiently.
Last December, CFPA planed to hold the "Spring of Poverty
Alleviation--China' Poverty Eradication Award Spring Festival Party." By
buying tickets, people throughout the country could attend the evening
banquet in the State Banquet Hall of the Great Hall of the People and
have dinner with state leaders. The highest priced ticket was set at
38,000 yuan. Proceeds from ticket sales would be used for poverty
alleviation. Later on, the host announced that the activity was to be
postponed.
It was reported that the CFPA released information about the dinner party
to the media without approval from relevant departments. Officials of the
CFPA expressed that they would regulate workflow in the future, and would
not publicize activities until approval has been granted.
He said that the CFPA would consult with the Department of Civil Affairs
and that its concrete name had not been settled yet.
