Stone exhibit highlights brilliance of Han Dynasty
www.chinanews.cn 2005-02-25 14:30:00
Han Stone is a type of ornamental stone carved with distinct themes. They
are portrayed in coffin chambers and ancestral halls in the Han Dynasty
(206 BC-220 AD). It tells a lot about the social life in the Han Dynasty,
vividly describing rules and regulations, daily lives and fairy tales of
the Han Dynasty. It reflects the people's attachment to their lives and
pursuit after death at that time. Han Stone is carved by knives instead
of pens. It has two types of carvings, overcast lining and bass-relief.
With a vigorous, simple and succinct style, Han Stone has very high
artistic value. Zaozhuang is one of the Chinese cities where there is a
concentration of Han Stone.
