On the New Year party held at Tibet University, teachers and local students and foreign students who studied there exchanged toasts and bid each other good luck in the new year. They sang and danced together to celebrate the onset of the new year. Alfaraderson from Norway has been studying in Tibet University for nearly half a year. This is her first time to spend the Tibetan new year in Tibet. She said it had been a very special Spring Festival as she tasted the "Qiema" (One auspicious food for the Tibetan new year) and drank green rye wine. She felt the warm friendship and passion from local Tibetans and she hoped to spend Spring Festival in Tibet next year as well. This year's Spring Festival happened to fall into the same day as the Tibetan wood rooster new year. Joyful songs and laughter could be heard everywhere in the ancient city of Lhasa. Foreign tourists were also moved by the intense festivity around the city. Helen, a tourist from Germany, said that she picked this time of the year to come to Tibet to feel how Tibetans were spending the Spring Festival. What struck her most was the hospitality of the Tibetans as she was even invited by some Tibetans on the street to join familial celebrations. This is certainly something she never experienced before. E-mail: zhangqinghua@chinanews.com.cn Tel: 8610-88387443 Fax: 8610-68327649 Copyright 2004 Chinanews.com. All rights reserved.
