A local passes by a series of giant paintings featuring Kunqu Opera and
Suzhou Pingtan in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, April 24, 2007. As national
intangible cultural heritage, Suzhou Pingtan is a regional performing art
in the south of the Yangtze River. Originated in Suzhou four hundred
years ago, Suzhou Pingtan is mostly performed in Suzhou dialect and by a
singer narrator with a fan and a piece of wood, telling stories of
history, court cases, heroes and epics.
